Zen and the Art of Biophysics

If you’ve ever wondered what the fabric of space-time looks like, take a walk on the beach.

At some point – in some dimension of meaning – metaphor ceases to be metaphor.

The scientist Mae Wan Ho refers to the work of her fellow researcher and teacher Emilio Del Giudice as “lighting the fire of a new science.” This new science entails a deep understanding of the electromagnetic nature of the organism and it’s relationship to light, water, and the quantum vacuum. However, the notion of a new science that unifies disparate realms of knowledge is, in fact, nothing new.

Syncretism is a deep undercurrent in many esoteric and occult systems of thought. From an exoteric perspective, modern physicists pine for a “unified field theory” which can unite all the forces of the standard model. Luckily for us, these “unified theories” exist, waiting to be accepted and more deeply understood. Perhaps there is a reason beyond their “fringe” nature why syncretic ideas are relegated to arcane schools of thought that is more sociological and transcends the scope of this article.

What we are seeing now in the field of biophysics is a realm which the ancient Daoists could have only dreamt. In a way, it is the inverse of Daoist nominalism – the belief that a name is merely a human attribution and can never adequately reflect the thing-in-itself. The domains of physics and metaphysics are, at last, bleeding together in ways that bring attention to the nature of the metaphor itself. In this view, the name is more than a reflection of the object in question, it can actually reflect part of the cosmic blueprint from which the object is made. The fractal-holographic nature of reality is being played out in front of our very eyes. We simply have to realize what it is we are seeing.

Waves crashing on the shore; peaks and troughs bouncing up and down on an otherwise smooth surface; waves on the surface interacting with other waves – consuming them, dispersing them, redirecting them; areas of smoothness and slower motion amidst the seeming chaos of wave interference; the way the waves on the surface bend the light on the floor of the ocean; the bubbles running a “game of life” before being reorganized by the next impending wave; waves within waves within waves and on and on and on… these are not merely metaphors for the wave-like nature of matter and the dynamics of quantum fluctuations. The past few decades of research into biophysics states that water is the closest thing to an exact, macro-scale reflection of quantum phenomena there is.

Ocean Waves

It is the moving image of coherence.

Next time you are on the beach, stretch your perception to encompass this view.

I originally wanted to write this article on the profound peace I have received from discovering the inner dynamics of my deep relationship with the Dao, the Ether, the Zero-point field, etc. specifically through the study of quantum biology.

For now, suffice it to say that after a couple months of intently reading the work of Giudice, Bischof, Ho, and others I had a dream. In this dream I was going through some sort of shopping mall, meeting and greeting people. But in this dream I experienced a feeling. This feeling was more than a feeling of “lucidity” – this was a feeling of being in flow. As I proceeded in the narrative of this dream, I felt like the very molecules of my being were being guided by their future states into their present state. I felt as though  my entire body was sensitive to the fluctuations of the Ether. I could feel it – and I let it move me.

Perhaps this feeling is the same kind of feeling we experience in the flow of our energywork. Perhaps it is our consciousness bouncing off of the interference patterns of the Ether which resonate back at us, infusing our being with a sense of deep harmony and a feeling of unity with something greater than oneself.

The future science of life will not distinguish between it’s humanistic implications and the physical dynamics that define it’s behavior.

All is One – A deeply synchronized, superfluid matrix of Spirit.

On The Nature of Qi and Source Qi

Qi is to electromagnetism as steam is to water.” – Eileen McKusick, Founder of Biofield Tuning

Eileen McKusick states that what we call “subtle energy” in the West, is “really a form of diffuse magnetism” or “a diffuse magnetic fluid”. (I would add to that – superfluid.)

How fitting, the ancient pictograph for qi,…

cropped-d06ce0c1f81717ad5d76611119a610d0-fortune-cookie-reiki-e1531770018522
…which represents the “steam that rises and falls from a cooking pot of rice.”

Many consider the nostalgia for the archaic that is so pervasive in alternative, esoteric, or even – gasp – New Age descriptions of reality as some form of magical thinking and a logical fallacy. However, there are key concepts that informed ancient man’s interaction with the world that are largely alien to modern man. For our purposes, the most important of these notions is vitalism.

Man’s pursuit of scientific description has directed mankind away from etheric phenomena and from the philosophical notions that have perennially underpinned vitalism. The Ether has been written off as bunk – ever since it was demonstrated that there is no resistance acting on the Earth as it moves through space, as if it were assumed to be moving through some sort of soft-serve ice cream. This discovery was used to “disprove” the existence of the Ether. (Again, see superfluid.) This was the Michelson-Morley experiment and was first conducted in 1887. The Planck density and “vacuum fluctuation” phenomena are also overwritten in the mathematical equations understood as appropriately explaining the world. Again and again, physicists are given a “fudge factor” in their equations to rule out what are, invariably, etheric effects.

I believe it is important to state here – clearly – that the notion of spirituality and metaphysical notions that invoke Divinity are by definition tautological, recursive, and self-affirming (see CTMU.). In exactly the same way that the Ether has creeped it’s way back into contemporary physics by way of dark matter and dark energy (after being thrown out of the work of Maxwell, Planck, and others), the nature of reality itself is fractal-holographic, i.e. the code governing space and time begins to collapse in on itself the deeper you look (ahem Fermilab, CERN, LHC, etc.).

So what does the Ether have to do with our everyday lives? Absolutely everything.

If you didn’t see that answer coming, well…

The theoretical quantum coherent properties of the Ether have been discussed in my prior articles [1, 2]. Let us continue to expand on those ideas. What is necessary for the medium of our energywork to be the able to receive and transmit the information needed to bring about health in the body?

All it needs is to be a fluid where the particles in it are coherent. Density, charge, and other seemingly limiting factors shouldn’t play a role in the information-carrying capacity of qi. The effects of entanglement persist completely irrespective of distance. Lucky for us, all fluids exhibit this ability to become self-coherent to some extent. It is as simple as the molecules of water surrounding a whirlpool spinning around the vortex in phase. Biophoton emissions are really a product of the flow of weak plasma. The impending realization that biophoton emission is best explained as a phenomenon of bioplasma is akin to how the discovery that there are “pockets of distilled water in the brain” preceded the discovery of EZ water.

So, if qi is everything…

…then what separates qi from the special and distinct form referred to as Source Qi (Yuan qi)? This topic is of incredible interest to me. In Daoist Alchemy, part of the process of “making the medicine” is refining one’s qi until it becomes more like Yuan qi. (see my video, Introduction to Daoist Alchemy) I’m postulating that the kind of quantum coherence that takes place where coherence and decoherence meet (relative to one another) has something to do with Source Qi. This means that Source Qi has a mind of it’s own. According to quantum biology, this intersection is where life emerges from the interaction of water, light, and carbonates. This intersection is the curved line running through the center of the taiji.

While this border is described conceptually as a line, it is best thought of, like practically all things in reality, as a contiuum. Think of this as being an impetus for why we pray – in order to bring ourselves more in touch with God. There aren’t only two forms of relationship with God. There are infinite forms and gradations. We might describe some people as having a closer relationship with God than others or certain activities as being more spiritual. While the worldview espoused herein is one implying that the Divine is ever-present and all-pervasive, we recognize that a feeling of Zen or of spiritual harmony is something we seek to engender more of in our day-to-day lives. When we are in flow, the resonance between our minds, our bodies, and – indeed – our lives with the very Source field of pure information-energy-potential is enhanced. This is something we know and feel.

Every time you do energywork, you vibrate and entrain the Ether with your movements. Every time you do energywork, you bring more of your overall being into resonance with Source.

The Importance of Spirituality in Healing

In my last article, I laid the foundation for some ideas regarding our psychospiritual interaction with the Dao. What has always been understood in all cultures under mystical pretense is now the purview of a unified physics, one that – if appreciated with an appropriate sense of wonder and an open heart – affirms for us the limitless spiritual power that is built into the reality in which we live. A power in which we play an important part.

Who would you rather be: a person stuck on an island with or without the power of prayer? Some might say, “prayer is delusion and I’d rather die without false hope.” These people simply have yet to feel it.

For those of us that do – where does this power come from?  The obvious and easy answer is God. It’s one that need suffice for us, ultimately. But while we’ve got time and the brains to do it, let us explore some ideas.

This article is not intended as an explanation of the power of God – rather it is a brisk walk through theology, metaphysics, and a study of consciousness. For our purposes, recognizing the influence of a higher power in one’s life is spirituality. Prayer is the act of making an appeal to that power. In this respect, energywork can easily be regarded as a form of prayer. The highest form of energywork is that in which the practitioner sees him or herself as a “hollow tube”. “It’s not you”, we often tell ourselves; it is the Source Qi (yuan qi) of the universe. The act of performing energywork is not the release of stored energy like a battery (i.e., capacitance) – it is simply allowing the right energy to flow (i.e., conductance).

At the quantum level, the glue that holds matter together is the coherence between the waves that governs its behavior. As our understanding of this phenomenon deepens, we realize that the effects of coherence are not just obscure occurrences in vacuum chambers with entangled particles – coherence is everywhere, all the time. In fact, quantum biology tells us that extremely high-level coherence is what keeps organisms together both at the cellular level and the level of the whole organism.

All cell membranes exist because the waves which stand on their surface are musical – literally; in phase.” – Dan Winter, Physicist

Quantum biology also tells us that the formation of life is a natural product of the interaction of water and light with the quantum information coherence network of the Planck scale of space. Light and water are literally extracting energy and information from the vacuum in a way that negates entropy and gives rise to organisms that feed, grow, and reproduce. The miracle of life is nothing short of a miracle, even when given a physical explanation.*

This coherence can happen between structures at different levels of scale. This encompasses interactions between the organization of mind and matter itself. In fact, the unimaginably complex interplay of information and energy at the Etheric (quantum vacuum) level of space can be interpreted as a universal form of proto-consciousness. One that is everywhere, all the time, and is constantly exchanging information-energy with all matter and especially matter organized into life.

I’m certainly not making the claim here that God can be somehow reduced to the total information-state of the quantum vacuum – but I am saying they are related. What’s being presented here is a theology in which God is both immanent and transcendent, both ineffable and interactive. How fortunate are we to have a spirituality that is so dynamic and so full of life?!

Being alive means that you are in some way more in touch with this energy than an inanimate object. You have a bio-scale supercomputer of quantum coherence following you around (your mind), in which you can direct your attention and cognitive processing power. Take into consideration the role of feedback in this process. If biogenesis results from feedback between the quantum electrodynamic interaction of water and light with the information of the quantum foam, then what are the possibilities of the quantum electrodynamic relationship between one’s mind and one’s conception of a higher power.

Spontaneous and miraculous healing occurs everyday, all over the planet. Could it be that through the power of our spirituality we are tapping into the high-level coherence of the Ether and thereby bringing our own bodies into resonance with that highly ordered field?

“Coherence is health.”

*It’s a bit more complicated than that. More on this to come.

Energywork and the Planck Space

Energy mindfulness is the practice of placing one’s attention on sensations or perceptions regarding a force or power interacting with one’s being. This can include overtly physical interaction to those that are more subtle or ephemeral – like thoughts. Thinking and perceiving in terms of energy is fundamental to energywork. What is energy?

There is no accepted definition for energy, other than those that refer to force, electromagnetism, or it’s relationship to matter (E=mc^2). Since the dawn of quantum mechanics, interpretations of reality in terms of the information that makes it up appear more and more definitive.

This is in lieu of Newtonian mechanics, which sees nature as physical, material, and fundamentally composed of matter – usually involving the interaction of particles, corpuscular bodies, and the like. The discovery that matter can be understood as both a particle and a wave (simultaneously) is the great insight of quantum physics. Both perspectives are simultaneously true – E equals mc^2. Newtonian mechanics is yin within yang. Quantum mechanics is yang within yin.*

Matter and energy are the same in the same way that 0 and 1 are both binary code.

What is a thought, in it’s simplest terms, other than an organization of information? The minds influence on matter is increasingly well-supported in scientific literature, e.g. the minds ability to move random number generators further away from random (i.e. more 0’s or more 1’s by willing it) [1][2][3], or the mind’s ability to intersect the path of light in the famous double-slit experiment by remote viewing into the box where light is being beamed [4].

These effects persist independently of distance and even when the subjects are electromagnetically shielded. There are no “psi waves” propagating through space. More on this in a bit.

At the quantized level of space, the “atom” is literally a whisp of pixie dust floating on an endlessly deep ocean of pure energy (Planck density: 10^93 gm/cm^3). “There is enough energy in a cubic centimeter of space to boil all the oceans of the world”, said Feynman. Turns out, this was a gross understatement. How, then, is matter stable under such unimaginable pressure?

The ground substance of reality is the information state of quantized, Planck-dense bits of data. The code that governs this data is perfect. Nothing ever gets off it’s tracks. All protons and electrons in the universe access this database to “know where to be at all times”. At this level, there is nothing but pure yin and pure yang interpenetrating one another; this is an image of the Taiji.

https://i1.wp.com/www.taijizen.com/backstage/js/kindeditor/attached/image/20130918/20130918151314_95334.png
What we are discovering in the laboratory of Radin, Dunne, and others is that consciousness has direct access to this database, and even to the code itself. Sound like the Matrix?  The level of information complexity in consciousness (note, I didn’t say in the brain) is second only to the Planck scale of space. The Planck scale is about 30 orders of magnitude more dense with information, but the degree of connectedness (novelty) in that information is matched only by what we know of as consciousness. I contend that it’s not due to wave-like effects but because of scale-harmonic novelty that mind shares its influence on the material world independent of mechanical effects.

The effect that intentionality has on reality is the basis of prayer, magic, energywork, and essentially all of the meaningful action in human life. Energy mindfulness brings the information complexity of the Planck scale into harmony with the information complexity of the mind-body space by some kind of feedback (or feedforward) mechanism. This cross-talk between mind, body, and what is effectively qi is the mechanism by which energywork and psychic phenomena occur.

By integrating mind, body, and spirit through energywork and Qigong, we entangle our being with the ground substance of the universe. In doing so we become more like the Dao.
